Kitchen & built-in millwork
A snow-country residence above Martis Valley needed kitchen casework and living-room built-ins that could handle seasonal humidity swings without telegraphing every change in the wood.
The homeowners asked for quiet storage, honest grain, and millwork that reads as part of the architecture—not furniture dropped into the room.
White oak fronts sit on a stable plywood core; the island is a single slab of rift-sawn stock with a leather-wrapped pull detail at the seating side—one warm accent in an otherwise pale palette.
Tall units hide refrigeration and dry storage behind flush panels so the kitchen reads as millwork, not a catalog of appliances. Soft-close hardware keeps daily use silent when the house fills with guests.
In the living room, a window wall of built-ins frames lake views. Open shelving carries books and objects; closed bases hide gear without competing with the glass line above.
Everything was field-measured after drywall, built in our Truckee shop, and installed in a short window between ski seasons—typical for projects we take on in the basin.
Tell us about the space—we’ll take it from concept through installation.
